Alberta Small Claims Limit to Increase to $100,000.00 on August 1, 2023

John McDonald

It's a well known fact that Alberta already has the highest small claims limit in the country (and at least the rest of the Commonwealth) but on August 1, 2023 the limit increases to $100,000.00 which (although not confirmed) will probably solidly place us as the highest jurisdiction in the world for small claims. What this means is that a very large number of claims that are currently before the Court of King's Bench can be moved to the Court of Justice which has a quicker, and simpler procedure to most disputes. Some civil claims of course will remain in the higher Court regardless of dollar amount such as Defamation and Unlawful Arrest. For Law firms, corporations and individuals, consider us for your litigation needs below $100,000.00
